Commissions & Licenses

I allow the use of my open edition images under limited licence to both individuals and public bodies. These are usually adjusted and/or reworked to the customers’ specification and I’m happy to quote for this.

Please note: I don't licence my images for use by art publishers.

Public bodies

It has been a very rewarding experience to work with the NHS over several years by providing images for use in a variety of situations in both new build and refurbishment projects. Work is generally chosen in consultation with user groups including staff and commissioned via Arts Coordinator/s and tends to be selected for the art works meditative and therapeutic value.

2023 - 2024 Health Based Place of Safety, Longley Centre, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield
Client: Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust

This refurbishment project consists of 3 bedroom suites a communal room and 2 external spaces. It provides a safe and comfortable environment for people who have been detained under Section136 of the Mental Health Act where they can be assessed in privacy to see how they can best be supported. Six images have been used in a variety of ways including full height wall panels in external spaces and blinds in door and window panels as well as large internal wall pieces. What is especially lovely is that colours from the images have been picked out and used throughout the furnishing in the rooms and external spaces giving them all separate identities. The Architects for this project were Frederick Gibberd Partnership.

2022 and 2023 Burbage Ward and Stanage Ward at Nether Edge Hospital Sheffield
Client: Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust

The image of 'Low Tides, Dusk' was resized and licenced for use in the 16 bedrooms at the new Burbage Ward which is an acute mental health inpatient ward and also in the refurbishment of Stanage Ward.

2018 Huntsman's Corridor, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield
Client: Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

The commission was to supply 4 images which were developed from my ‘Bright Woods’ collection. The Arts’ Coordinators worked with staff and user groups to select the pieces and fine tune the designs including wildflowers added to the summer image and snow to the winter one. The finished images have been applied along a length of Huntsman’s Corridor.

Jill Ray Art at Bristol Hospital

2016 Bereavement Services Viewing Room
Client: Bristol Hospital

As part of a refurbishment project, I was commissioned to rework and enlarge an image based on ‘Spring in Ecclesall Woods’ to be supplied as a print with the aim of providing a relaxed and calm environment.

Private Customers

As with licences to public bodies, where a private individual would like one of my images enlarged to be printed on to vinyl for application directly on to a wall, I’m happy to quote for this. Once the size and any reworking of the image is agreed, I then send the digital image to the printing/ installation company chosen by the customer who then deals directly with that company to arrange and pay for the printing/ installation costs separately.

Please note: As new print designs take me around 120 hours to draw, I don’t undertake commissions for one off prints to individuals.

Pool Room 1, Sheffield 2020

This customer has an indoor pool and wanted a moorland view to cover one wall. The wall is divided along its length with columns which required the image to be reworked into 3 panels to appear to be a continuous view behind the columns. They chose 'Spring on the Moor' in part because that wall of the pool room faces towards Burbage and 'Spring on the Moor' is of that view.

Pool Room 2, Sheffield 2023/24

The same customer whilst undertaking a refurbishment of their sauna room, decided that they would like to include another image on the opposing wall to ‘Spring on the Moor’. Here the wall has windows to one side overlooking a tree lined garden boundary and to tie in with this they chose ‘Blue Morning’ as an image. I reworked the image fit the space and to allow the ‘open’ side to blend into the adjacent wall colour and secondly to disguise a hatch door towards the top of the wall.
